Welcome back to Union Mill! I can hardly believe it is time to put away the suntan lotion and take out the lunch boxes!
Thank you to our wonderful Hospitality committee, Ruth Odom and Kim Fullwood, for arranging such a special Back to School Breakfast for our teachers. You did an incredible job!
Popsicles on the Porch was a bit wet this year, but it was great to see everyone from our seasoned sixth graders to our curious kindergarteners anxious to start the new school year. Thank you to Donna Lyons for making it happen. Kathy and Damian LaRuffa helped us get into the groove with the sales of our Union Mill Spirit Wear program. It is so wonderful seeing so many of our students and staff proudly wearing their Union Mill attire. Kathy and Damian will have a wider selection of spirit wear on back to school nights and at the Fall Festival. I know many of us want to thank Kathleen Unterkofler for making school supply shopping so easy. Kathleen, you and your volunteers did a fabulous job!
I want to thank Colleen Kikis and Brenda Potts who got down and dirty last week helping Wanda and Dianne weed and prune the front of our school. It looks great! If anyone is interested in getting involved with making our building and grounds look brighter and more beautiful, reach out to Colleen, Brenda, or Susan Bardenhagen, our co chairs for Buildings and Grounds.
I want to thank Mrs. Shadis for welcoming all the children back with her warm smiles and big hugs. You make the children feel very special. We are truly blessed to have a principal who has a great rapport with the children while providing strong leadership to an amazing staff.
While attending Back to School activities, please do not forget to vote on this year's PTA budget. A special thanks to Adam Poling, our Treasurer, for putting the budget together.
Please keep in mind that our monthly PTA membership meetings are on the first TUESDAY of the month, with our first one scheduled for October 7 th .
There are already so many things going on at Union Mill! The children seem like they never left, and our kindergarteners have already become old pros at their daily routines. This school is a very special place. However, it is not only the outstanding staff and children that make it so great, but the families as well. There are a number of activities and groups that need your help. Our largest fund raiser of the year is coming up at the end of October. The Family Fun Auction funds most of our activities for the year, including our Author Series and Multicultural Night. The chair person of the auction is Susan Zimmerman. Please reach out to her if you would like to get involved.
Check out our new adjustable basketball hoop on the playgroup that was funded by our PTA. A special thanks to Sharon Barnes who had the passion to see this project through, even when we were faced with road blocks. On behalf of all the children – thank you, Sharon!
